Craig and Rose
Established in the early 19th century Scottish paint manufacturers Craig and Rose has become a byword for quality and innovative production techniques. The company has a unique heritage, rooted in craftsmanship - early paint contracts included the Forth Bridge and St Pauls Cathedral – and is finding a new audience today with younger buyers looking for authenticity and distinction in the contemporary home, and within the boutique hospitality sector.
We worked with Craig and Rose to help reach a broader target audience of influencers, architects and interior designers . Highlighting the company’s signature Arabian Red, we devised an installation for launch at the 2018 London Design Festival partnering with artists Emily Forgot and Alistair Covell, and architect Angela Dapper, to explore the psychological connection between colour and memory.
The following year, we built on our insight into consumer behaviours to develop 12 new colours for Craig and Rose’s 1829 heritage paint range. Selecting colours from their vintage archive and other historical sources our objective was to showcase their expertise in rich and sensuous colours with deep pigmentation and a wide range of finishes and effects. The colours are carefully chosen to integrate seamlessly into Craig and Rose’s existing colour card and align with their overarching brand values.
In order to launch the range and bring it to life for the broadest design sector we developed an immersive installation for the 2019 London Design Festival. Working with architects Studio Shaw, our installation explored the relationships of the colours to one another so that they are seen, not just in glorious isolation, but as part of a dynamic palette of shifting tones in a continuous dialogue. This interactive space challenged existing perceptions around colour, resulting in a high level of engagement, press and footfall.
“Justine Fox quickly understood our mission and transformed that into hugely popular installation for the London Design Festival.”
